Piozi(drains into the upper Yarkitch from the Yarkitch’s river left):
When paddled: late Sept: 2007
Volume: 600 cfs however, the daily cycle of glacial melt may take it from 300 to 800 cfs
There is a path up the river right of the Piozi which starts at its confluence with the Yarkitch. The hike is challenging but not extremely difficult. A half-day’s walk up the river, there is a good put-in glen. From here down the whitewater is class IV/V. There are several glaciers that span the river. Some you can actually paddle under, but some you must portage. The third glacier down happens in a canyon with steep walls and getting out to portage is quite challenging. The whitewater is relatively continuous.
Recs: Watch out for glaciers and bears. Watch the water level so you don’t get swept under a glacier when there are no rocks to get out of your boat
