Dubursa/Kaftarkhona:
When paddled: late Sept. 2007 and early Sept. 2008
Volume: 800 cfs
It is possible to walk up the bottom 3 kilometers of this river from the Garif confluence on a good walking path. The bottom 3 kilometers are the best whitewater seen in the bottom 12 kilometers. Around 10 kilometers upstream from the confluence with the Garif there is one kilometer of class IV whitewater. Farther upstream (above where the Zamburkhona River comes in) maps show some gradient, but we were not able to scout this section.
Recs: If you are doing the Sarbog, just hike up the bottom couple kilometers for more fun whitewater. It may be possible to portage in way upstream from the coal mine near Khoit with a corresponding amplification of pain.
Pleasure: Pain 5:2
